The Reason Why We Changed To A Raw Diet
Dog reactivity holds a very personal significance for me. When I began walking dogs, my knowledge of dog training and reactivity was minimal. I used to believe that any display of erratic, growly, barky, or aggressive behaviour indicated misbehaviour, and the dog needed to be disciplined. Little did I know that you cannot combat fear with fear; only empathy and education can construct that bridge. This was the transformation that dog psychology and behaviourism fired in me.
Training with people who have reactive dogs moves me deeply. My already fulfilling job takes on even more meaning at a personal level. Most of the time, we are addressing fear, and there's nothing quite like helping someone overcome fear or mental barriers.
Owning a reactive dog evokes a range of emotions — a peculiar blend of love and frustration, compassion and irritation, a strong desire to help, and a sense of hopelessness. The confusion surrounding this unusual dog behaviour adds to the complexity.
To be part of this journey and provide assistance, hope, and comfort while rehabilitating a dog is a truly unique and rewarding experience.
